Scales and Aural Workshops

The ARSM examinations require fluent scale-playing as set out by the board at different levels. There is not always enough time for scales to get to the required standard in the weekly lessons and I have found a good mornings work in a group session near to the exam period an extremely helpful and rather more fun option. Please keep checking this page for further workshop updates.

The aural workshops cover pitch, intervals, musical directions, rhythm & timing. These skills are needed not only for the ABRSM exams, but to enhance better 'listening' which is paramount to good musicianship. Great fun is usually had by all!
 
Music Appreciation Workshops

This workshop is designed for beginners/Grade1 and will cover some essential music theory, enhance aural ability and encourage the exploration and understanding of all genres of music beyond the everyday mainstream & commercial styles that bombard our daily lives.

The workshop is designed for young people (average age 6 - 10) who would like to improve their general music knowledge to a higher standard, in a fun, small group situation.

Looking at 'how things work' in written music, rhythm and harmony, using styles including classical, rock & pop, flamenco etc., anything goes! Students are also encouraged to bring along a favourite music piece of their choice on cd or mp3.

With limited places, booking preference will be given to students of the piano school and thereafter on a 'first come, first serve' basis.
